Another Dahan behind the label??
This one, however, is entirely his own designer. No relation to the more famous Jerome Dahan, the powerhouse behind the 7 For All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity labels, Joe Dahan hails from a family of Moroccan cobblers who had served the queen. As a Californian teenager, Joe dabbled variously as a college undergrad taking business courses, tried his hand at amateur surfing, and even worked as a performance artist. It was during these volatile times that he formed the sensibilities which he has brought to his designs, with a funky street style that culminated in a small commotion, generating over a hundred thousand dollars in sales the first day he informally debuted his men’s line at a trade show. Moreover, his initial customers were no less than industry heavyweights such as Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s. With such a reputation, he was soon approached by Barney’s New York to design a sexy lingerie-inspired line of women’s camis, tank-tops, and tee shirts with original prints and hand-painted details that soon made twenty million dollars altogether.
Joe went on to work as a lead designer for some of the most popular brands such as Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Nautica. In three intense years he had developed a variety of innovative denim preparations and finishes after endless experiments and was finally ready to establish his own label. Joe’s Jeans emphasizes style and comfort for literally every body with its specific style lines for various body types. These style lines were inspired by Joe’s original made-to-order creations for his celebrity clients, and have now morphed into his Nine Basic Fits: The Twiggy, The Starlet, The Rocker, The Socialite, The Lover, The Honey, The Muse, The Provocateur, and The Cigarette – each five-pocket jean coming with its own removable tag with playfully teasing horoscope-like profiles to describe the wearer!
Joe Dahan’s celebrity following has also inspired him to launch his Premium series by combining his bad-boy alter ego with the Basics program outlined above to create a luxury denim group that boasts hand-stitching, embroidery, vintage inserts and appliqués, cool fabric aging with tears and bleach stains, and gold lettering on special editions stamped with serial numbers. That’s in addition to the usual assorted handiwork found along the interior waistband and lining.
The future has Joe’s Jeans looking forward to re-entering the men’s market after a two-season hiatus due to being overloaded with work on their women’s lines!
